20.1 Adverbs of Degree

The degree of comparison is an additional component that tells by how much of the quality (specified by the scale of comparison) the subject of comparison exceeds the standard of comparison. There are two kinds: exact and inexact; the latter are preposed modifiers such as vey "very" and lil "slightly" while the former are adverbial phrases consisting of some number plus a unit of measurement (which takes the e-form ?).

vey grave   very heavy

longe hepto metre ?   7 meters long

20.2 Absolute Positives

An exact degree of comparison can also be used without comparison to tell the absolute amount of a quality the subject has.

ele viro alte duo metre ?
That man is 2 meters tall.

20.3 Absolute Superlatives

An absolute superlative indicates that the degree is the highest possible for the given context.

Vocabulary
metro meter
