Letters and Sounds

The tables show the relevent phonetic symbols (in IPA) with the corresponding orthographic (romanization) symbols. The 20 letters used are:
a á e é g i í k m n o ó p r s t u ú x 'b c d f h j l q v w y z aren't used.

In the following tables, an asterisk * indicates that the letter is used for more than one sound.

Vowel Qualities

There are 4 short vowels, 4 nasal vowels, 5 long vowels, and 2 diphthongs. The diphthongs are [ai] ai and [ao] ao.
