SSM3 Phonology and Orthography

The tables show the relevent phonetic symbols (in IPA) with the corresponding orthographic symbols. SSM3 may be written without spaces between words.

Vowel Qualities

There are 5 vowel phonemes and no diphthongs or vowel sequences. Vowel length is not distinguished.

Syllables and Prosody

Syllables are:

• V(C) - initial only
• CVC - medial only
• CV - medial or final

The 1st syllable after the last closed syllable has high tone. Examples:

acvafróqo, evangí.

Phonotactics

• The allophone [z] occurs before a voiced plosive.
• The allophone [ŋ] occurs before [k] and [g].
• The allophones [v] and [ʒ] occurs after vowels and [r].
